::Required Reading:: 08/12/12

 So it's not really required reading (heavens knows, I have enough of that as a university student), but a weekly feature where I share the love by showcasing posts that I have read that inspired me/made me laugh/were thought provoking, etc. I also do a weekly recap to reflect on my bookish week.

 Review Recap
I posted my review of The Jelly Bean Crisis by Jolene Stockman. I really enjoyed this one - it was smart, cute, relatable AND inspiring! My review could use a little comment love :)

Bookish Posts
 This Harry Potter table of elements is amazing! I can’t imagine how long it would have taken to create!

I bet y’all knew this, but reading gives you SUPER POWERS! Here is an awesome video from Dav Pilkey (creator of The Captain Underpants series) explaining why.

If Hip-Hop Lyrics Were Book Blurbs is quite humorous. My faves are the “blurbs” for  #2
Any Victorian novel ever, #10 Fifty Shades of Grey, #14 The Hobbit, and #19 The Great Gatsby. What are yours?

I found this post on Dear Author about the Fifty Shades of Grey phenom helpful and relatable - it’s all about coming to terms with the series and accepting it for what it is, and how it can be seen as a positive development in the literary world. I know. I didn’t think I’d ever say that. But this article has persuaded me. That doesn’t mean I agree with everything in the books, or even like them, but it did help me to see past some of the prejudices I have of the books.

Have you seen the Goodreads Confessions tumblr yet? It’s fun to read through.

Even though I don’t like them, I just might brave these imaginary roller coaster rides based on YA stories.  You can find the part two of Crunching and Munching’s list here.

Don’t click on this link of gorgeous repurposed buildings made into libraries if don’t want to spend the next 20 minutes drooling over fantastical details.
What was your favourite bookish post this week? Leave a link in the comments!
Or did you reply on one of the posts I linked to? Let me know so I can read it!

  1. Awesome links, Rachelia! I had a post about reading sexy and sultry books and talked about 50 Shades ... I guess it could be seen as a good thing because maybe now people won't be so judgy when seeing people reading these kinds of books?

    Those hip-hop blurbs were pretty funny! I loved The Hobbit one ... yay for Fresh Prince!

  2. I really like the Goodreads Confessions tumblr - I find myself nodding in agreement to some and staring open-mouthed in shock at others (someone liked Hush, Hush better than Unearthly!?!?).

  4. Thanks for the linkup, Rachelia! Thanks for being willing to brave our amusement park rides! (I swear, some of them won't be scary at all).
