LGBT Read-a-Thon (May 3-6, 2013)

April 29, 2013 Read-a-Thons 10

This read-a-thon lasts from Friday (May 3) to Monday (May 6) and is four days where participants will aim to read as many LGBT fiction (or non-fiction) books as they so choose! It’s as simple as that. The read-a-thon is to help raise awareness for LGBT fiction as there is so much out there and it is time that people started tapping into the potential that it holds.

My good friend Faye at Daydreamer’s Thoughts is hosting a LGBT read-a-thon event at the end of the week, which I think is a great idea. Bookish Comforts is an LGBTQ friendly space and I love the purpose of the event, so I’m signing up!

I’m aiming to read at least 2 books from my review books, bookshelves, and e-reader. I’ve went through and pulled out some candidates. Anyone read any of these yet?

If you are interested in signing up for the LGBT Read-a-Thon as well, head on over to Faye’s blog! Need an LGBTQ book recommendation? I’ve reviewed a few and highly recommend Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan!

I’m also taking part in this read-a-thon as well, haha. I’m definitely going to be reading Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan, and also Hero by Perry Moore. I’ve heard Shine is a great book, so I hope you enjoy it!

Boy Meets Boy was probably one of my first LGBT books, AND my first David Levithan book and I remember loving it, so I hope you enjoy it to!

This is a great idea. I may try to participate in this one as well. Some of my favorites are J.H. Trumble’s books and I SHINE was wonderful. STICK by Andrew Smith is BRILLIANT. I also have THE WAITING TREE, waiting for me to read. ;-)

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on SHINE!

Thanks for the recommendations, Amy! I hadn’t heard of Trumble or Smith, but I’ve added some of their books on Goodreads! I might not get to reading Shine this weekend, but I need to read it soon. Hearing such good things :)

If You Could be Mine is on my wish list!!! Sadly, the reviews I’ve read are not so positive so far, but I’m still intrigued. Looking forward to read your thoughts on it.

    Happy reading! :)

It was OK, but it read a bit flat for me. Still trying to get all my thoughts in order to write a review, haha :)

I haven’t heard of any of those books so I’ll have to check them out and see if I can make my TBR pile grow (which isn’t a hard task.)

I was accepted for The Waiting Tree on NetGalley but then there is only a Kindle download :( I e-mail the contact but it’s published via Amazon and have yet to hear back.

I couldn’t get your raving of Ask the Passengers out of my head Karen and ended up buying it recently :) When I get a chance to read from my own books (I’m a bit behind on review ones unfortunately) I’m going to pick it up! I hope I like it as much as you!!
